On Wednesday 30 November, three unions representing Esso employees gave notice that they will take protected industrial action that would result in the full shutdown of the Longford Gas Plant - both the onshore and offshore facilities - from Friday 9 December 2016 until 1 March 2017.
The Victorian Minister for Industrial Relations has made an application to the Fair Work Commission for the termination of the action under s424 of the Fair Work Act 2009.
