Market participants

The term ‘market participants’ refers to the people or businesses that take part in the electricity and gas markets operated by AEMO. There are many different participants involved in our energy systems, including (but not limited to) generators, producers, Network Service Providers, shippers and retailers. To participate in Australia’s energy markets, people and businesses must register with AEMO.

Each market has different participant categories and this section of Learn provides an overview of these categories. Greater detail is provided in the documents shared on each page.
