AEMO is a not-for-profit organisation, operating on a cost-recovery basis.

At AEMO, we prioritise strong financial and program governance to ensure financial stability, stakeholder trust and a maintain a strong licence to operate. Our annual budget and fees consultation is one of the ways we provide transparency over our costs.

AEMO’s annual budget reflects our committed program to deliver on our core functions and responsibilities and our strategic priorities, outlined in the Strategic Corporate Plan. It is comprised of distinct financial segments, which are aligned with our sources of funding. The majority of AEMO’s financial segments are funded by fees paid by registered market participants, however, a growing portion of AEMO’s activities are directly funded by state and federal governments and via fee-for-service arrangements.

Consultation FY26 Draft Budget and Fees is now open

AEMO's board and management are committed to further improving trust and transparency with industry. We understand that to achieve this must continue to exercise financial discipline through prudency and efficiency. As part of this commitment, AEMO annually consults on a draft budget and fees prior to ensure stakeholders’ feedback can be considered prior to finalising the budget.

We invite all stakeholders to review AEMO’s FY26 Draft Budget and Fees and to provide feedback. Consultation is open from 3 April 2025 until 6pm AEDT 23 April 2025.

AEMO’s Budget and fees: 2025-26

AEMO’s annual budget and fees document publishes the revenue requirements and associated fees and charges to be paid by market participants. We consult on the draft budget and fees prior to finalising it and publishing it by 30 June each year.

National Transmission Planner charges, Transmission Use of Services charges (Victoria only) are published earlier, in line with AEMO’s requirements.
