Operational forecasting

AEMO produces forecasts for the day-to-day operations of the National Electricity Market (NEM) covering dispatch (five-minute) forecasts for the eight days ahead. These include forecasts for intermittent renewable generation for wind and solar, as well as electricity load forecasts.

Operational forecasts are critical inputs into the pre-dispatch and short-term projected assessment of system adequacy (STPASA), which are essential for maintaining power system security.

This section provides information about the Australian Solar Energy Forecasting System (ASEFS) and the Australian Wind Energy Forecasting System (AWEFS), as well as the dispatch self-forecast program for market participants.

It also includes information about AEMO’s load forecasts for both pre-dispatch (for the day ahead) and the short-term projected assessment of system adequacy forecast.
