An AEMO Intervention Event occurred when AEMO issued a direction to maintain the power system in a secure operating state.
The AEMO Intervention Event commenced in the 1635 hrs dispatch interval and is forecast to apply until 0400 hrs 15/11/2019.
AEMO declares all dispatch intervals during the AEMO Intervention Event to be intervention price dispatch intervals.
The direction is expected to affect dispatch quantities for intervention pricing purposes from the 0935 hrs dispatch interval on 14/11/2019.

Direction - SA region 13/11/2019
In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO has issued a direction to a participant in the SA region.
The direction was necessary to maintain the power system in a secure operating state.
AEMO may issue or revoke additional directions in order to meet the current requirement, unless sufficient market response is provided.
A further market notice will be issued when all directions related to this requirement have been cancelled.
For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a).

The synchronous generating units expected to be synchronised in SA from 0900 hrs 14/11/2019 to 0430 hrs 15/11/2019 in Pre-dispatch published at 1500 hrs 13/11/2019 are inadequate to maintain sufficient system strength in SA and hence a secure operating state.
AEMO currently estimates that, in the absence of sufficient market response by 1530 hrs 13/11/2019, AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction requiring one or more SA synchronous generating unit(s) to operate or remain synchronised to maintain power system security in SA.

AEMO has identified that a non-credible contingency event is more likely to occur in the NSW region because of the existence of abnormal conditions, namely multiple large bushfires burning across NSW.
At the time of this notice there are two reclassifications in place, however the criteria for reclassification of any other non-credible contingency event have not been met, and there is a possibility of bushfires impacting multiple transmission elements in NSW.
Conditions can change rapidly and potentially impacted plant may change. Further notices will only be published to advise of any reclassification, or when the abnormal conditions have ceased to impact the likelihood of a non-credible event occurring.
