New synchronous generator combinations for the SA + APD + Mortlake Island for system strength and frequency control

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Refer to market notice 73838

AEMO is continuing to investigate combinations required for the extended operation of South Australia, Mortlake and APD connected as an island. Six new minimum combinations of synchronous generation in South Australia have been added, these are:
4 - 3 x Torrens Island A units + 2 x Torrens Island B units + Osborne GT & ST
5 - 3 x Torrens Island A units + 2 x Torrens Island B units + 1 x Pelican Point GT/ST units
6 - 2 x Torrens Island A units + 3 x Torrens Island B units + 1 x Pelican Point GT/ST units
7 - 3 x Torrens Island A units + 2 x Torrens Island B units + Quarantine 5
8 - 2 x Torrens Island A units + 3 x Torrens Island B units + Quarantine 5

The limits advice on the AEMO website will be updated shortly:
https://www.aemo.com.au/-/media/files/electricity/nem/security_and_reliability/congestion-information/transfer-limit-advice-system-strength.pdf?la=en

AEMO is continuing to investigate other synchronous generator combinations ? these will be advised by future market notices.

Operation of SA + APD + Mortlake Island during low demand periods

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

AEMO has determined that during times of low demand in South Australia + APD + Mortlake island a number of generators and Murraylink need to be constrained. This is so there is enough inertia, frequency responsive plant, and generation enabled in the over-frequency generation shedding scheme (OFGS) to ensure power system security is maintained following a credible contingency.

When the operational demand in South Australia falls below 800 MW the following generators will be ramped down and constrained to zero (see Constraint Set: SA-GEN_RAMP_ZERO)

Angaston
Barkers Inlet
Bungala 1 SF
Bungala 2 SF
Dry Creek
Hallett
Hornsdale 1 WF
Hornsdale 2 WF
Hornsdale 3 WF
Ladbroke Grove
Lincoln Gap WF
Lonsdale
Mintaro
Port Lincoln GT
Port Stanvac
QPS 1-4
Snuggery
Tailem Bend SF
Willogoleche WF

Murraylink will also be constrained to zero flows from Victoria to South Australia (unconstrained for SA to Vic flows).

The following non-scheduled generators will be directed to zero:
Cathedral Rocks WF
Mt Millar WF
Starfish Hill WF
Wattle Point WF
