Background

Network Support and Control Ancillary Services (NSCAS) are non-market ancillary services that may be delivered to maintain power system security and reliability of supply of the transmission network, or to maintain or increase the power transfer capability of the transmission network

In September 2020, AEMO published its updated NSCAS description and quantity procedure in order to allow NSCAS reviews to appropriately respond to the challenges introduced by the energy transition.

After applying the updated description and quantity procedure for the delivery of the 2020 NSCAS review, AEMO found that some traditional network planning assumptions may no longer be fit for purpose in the context of declining minimum demand.

AEMO considers that there is a need to consult on changing the existing assumption regarding line switching for voltage management in the current NSCAS description and quantity procedure.

The first stage of consultation has been released. Submissions for this stage of consultation close by 5pm (AEDT) on Friday 8 November 2021. Please send your submissions to planning@aemo.com.au
