Final methodology

AEMO has consulted on the Initial Methodology AEMO Intervention Event Compensation required under clause 11.146.2 of the NER. 

Closing date and time

Submissions in response to this consultation were requested to reach AEMO by 5.00pm (AEST) on 22 July 2022. AEMO received no submissions on the consultation draft and the initial methodology has been adopted without change.

First stage consultation

This notice informs all Registered Participants and other interested parties (Consulted Persons) that AEMO is conducting a consultation on the initial methodology (Methodology) under clause 3.12.2 of the National Energy Rules (NER) following amendment by the National Electricity Amendment (Compensation for market participants affected by intervention events Rule 2021.

This consultation is being conducted under clause 11.146.2 of the NER. 

Matter under Consultation

The matter for consultation is in regard to the methodology to be used by AEMO to determine the amount of compensation that an affected participant, market customer, or ancillary service provider is entitled to receive, or must pay, under clause 3.12.2 of the NER as amended with effect from 1 August 2022. Further details are provided in the draft Methodology published with this notice.

The Consultation Process

There will be one round of formal submissions on the draft Methodology. Following consideration of any submissions, AEMO expects to proceed directly to publication of a final Methodology. The publication date of the final Methodology is set by the NER. The indicative consultation process is outlined below. Dates may be subject to change.

Invitation to Make Submissions

AEMO invites written submissions on the matter under consultation, including any alternative or additional proposals you consider may better meet the objectives of this consultation and the national electricity objective in section 7 of the National Electricity Law.

AEMO will generally publish all submissions. Please identify any parts of your submission that you wish to remain confidential, and explain why. AEMO may still publish that information if it does not consider it to be confidential, but will consult with you before doing so.

Please note that material identified as confidential may be given less weight in the decision-making process than material that is published.

Submissions in response to this Notice of Consultation should be sent by email to jordan.santer@aemo.com.au, to reach AEMO by 5.00pm (Melbourne time) on Friday 22 July 2022.

All submissions must be forwarded in electronic format. Please send any queries about this consultation to the same email address.

Submissions received after the closing date and time will not be valid, and AEMO is not obliged to consider them. Any late submissions should explain the reason for lateness and the detriment to you if AEMO does not consider your submission.

Publication

All submissions will be published on AEMO’s website, other than confidential content.
