AEMO’s Draft 2025 Electricity Network Options Report (formerly the Network Expansion Options Report) and a new Gas Infrastructure Options Report will support AEMO’s planning activities, including the development of the 2026 Integrated System Plan (ISP).
These reports will now be published on 22 May 2025 for consultation. Originally to be published on 16 April 2025, publication has been delayed to enable greater consideration of inputs, a requirement stemming from the expanded scope of the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council (ECMC)-endorsed ISP Review (and subsequent National Electricity Rule changes). These require greater consideration of electricity distribution networks and gas infrastructure in the 2026 ISP, as well as some enhanced transmission network information.
Importantly, AEMO will still provide stakeholders with an opportunity to consult on these key inputs, and submissions will be due 30 calendar days from release.
The new Draft 2025 Gas Infrastructure Options Report will meet new rule change requirements about ‘better integration of gas and community sentiment into the ISP’ as a result of the government’s ISP Review. This will help identify infrastructure options to support gas development projections for use in the 2026 ISP and identify a robust set of electricity infrastructure investments in the 2026 ISP.
This report should not be confused with the 2025 Gas Statement of Opportunities published on 20 March 2025 in accordance with the National Gas Rules.
An updated 2026 ISP Timetable has been published. Any questions may be sent to ISP@aemo.com.au
