Renewable Energy Zone Development Plan Stage 1
Projects to strengthen the system - Call for Expressions of Interest (CEI)
On 3 August 2021, the Victorian Government announced the six projects to progress through Stage 1 of its Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Development Plan (RDP).
The Victorian Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change made an order under section 16Y of the National Electricity (Victoria) Act 2005 (NEVA) requiring AEMO to undertake procurement processes to progress three contestable projects for services to strengthen the system as well as three sets of non-contestable minor network augmentations.
AEMO will only enter into a contract for a non-network service as a result of this procurement process following the Minister making a further order under section 16Y of the NEVA.
As the procurement process is competitive, the details of the process itself are confidential and commercially sensitive.

Specified Augmentation Works
The Ministerial Order required AEMO to undertake procurement activities relating to nine non-contestable augmentations (specified augmentations) from the relevant incumbent declared transmission system operator through a separate non-market process. Grouped by REZ, these nine specified augmentations represent three of the six projects the Victorian Government announced to progress through Stage 1 of its RDP.
