Cancellation -Inter-regional transfer limit variation - Constraint invocation to manage Power System Security in NSW region - 22/01/2025

Refer to MN 123588

In order to maintain the power system in a secure operating state in the NSW region (Northern NSW) ,

AEMO has invoked constraint set #N-Q-MNSP1_E from 1720 hrs until 1845 hs 22/01/2025.

This constraint set contains equations with the following interconnector on the LHS;

Inter-regional transfer limit variation - Lismore No1 SVC - NSW region - 22/01/2025

A planned outage of Lismore No1 SVC in the NSW region was scheduled from 0620 hrs 08/01/2025 to 1600 hrs 24/01/2025.

The outage has been completed and Lismore No1 SVC returned to service at 1900 hrs 22/01/2025

The Forecast LOR1 condition in the Qld region advised in AEMO Electricity Market Notice No. 123581 has been updated at 1650 hrs to the following:

From 1800 hrs 22/01/2025 to 1930 hrs 22/01/2025.
The forecast capacity reserve requirement is 856 MW.
The minimum capacity reserve available is 709 MW.

In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO is issuing a direction to Pelican Point Power Limited. For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a1)(1).

Type of resource: generating unit
Required actions: Remain synchronised and follow dispatch targets at 0900 hrs 23/01/2025
Services provided: Voltage Control
Circumstances necessitating the Direction:Voltage
Circumstances necessitating the Direction additional detail: intervention is required to maintain the power system in a secure operating state
Expected duration: 1800 hrs 23/01/2025 / further notice.

Pelican Point Power Limited does not incur any civil monetary liability for a relevant action taken in accordance with this direction unless the action is taken in bad faith.

AEMO declares a Forecast LOR1 condition under clause 4.8.4(b) of the National Electricity Rules for the QLD region for the following Period:

TORRB3 TORRENS ISLAN at 0800 hrs 21/01/2025 to Remain synchronised and follow dispatch targets.

The TORRB3 TORRENS ISLAN direction is now expected to stay in place until 0400 hrs 24/01/2025.

The direction update is issued at 1600 hrs 22/01/2025.

At 1935 hrs 21/01/2025 there was a short notice outage of Bundy-Buronga (6F) 330 kV line

The following constraint set(s) invoked

This constraint set(s) contains equations with the following interconnectors on the LHS.
V-S-MNSP1,VIC1-NSW1,V-SA,T-V-MNSP1

The outage is scheduled to return to service at 1935 hrs 22/01/2025

AEMO's weather service provider has issued forecast temperatures equal to or greater than the NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels for listed weather stations below.

QLD
Dalby Ap (37+ Deg C): 22nd Jan, 23rd Jan, 24th Jan

SA
Port Augusta Ap (39+ Deg C): 26th Jan

The NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels are:

Launceston Ti Tree Bend: 33 Deg C, Dalby Airport: 37 Deg C, for all other selected weather stations: 39 Deg C.

AEMO requests Market Participants to:

1. review the weather forecast in the local area where their generating units / MNSP converter stations are located and,

2. if required, update the available capacity in their dispatch offers or availability submissions consistent with the forecast temperatures.
