AEMO has identified a foreseeable circumstance that may require an AEMO intervention event in the SA region from 0400 hrs 26/07/2025.

The foreseeable circumstance requiring the need for intervention is Voltage.

AEMO declares a Forecast LOR2 condition under clause 4.8.4(b) of the National Electricity Rules for the SA region for the following period:

From 0730 hrs to 0900 hrs 28/07/2025.
The forecast capacity reserve requirement is 563 MW.
The minimum capacity reserve available is 536 MW.

AEMO is seeking a market response.

AEMO has not yet estimated the latest time it would need to intervene through an AEMO intervention event.


AEMO Operations

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE.

AEMO has identified that a non-credible contingency event impacting the power system is more likely to occur and is considered reasonably possible because of the existence of widespread abnormal conditions namely severe weather in the SA region.

AEMO has therefore reclassified the occurrence of a non-credible contingency event involving multiple plant due to these abnormal conditions as credible.

AEMO has taken the following action(s) to maintain power system security at 0850 hrs 25/07/2025.

Duration: 0850 hrs until further notice

Need for further measures is being monitored and further measures may be implemented in line with the Power System Security Guidelines (SO_OP_3715).

Direction - SA region to AGL SA Generation Pty Limited - TORRB2 TORRENS ISLAN

In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO is issuing a direction to AGL SA Generation Pty Limited. For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a1)(1).

Direction issued to: AGL SA Generation Pty Limited - TORRB2 TORRENS ISLAN at 0800 hrs 25/07/2025
Type of resource: generating unit
Required actions: Remain synchronised and follow dispatch targets at 2030 hrs 25/07/2025
Services provided: Voltage Control
Circumstances necessitating the Direction: Voltage
Circumstances necessitating the Direction additional detail: The synchronous generating units currently expected to be synchronised in SA will be inadequate to maintain sufficient Voltage Control in SA. Intervention is required to maintain the power system in a secure operating state
Expected duration: 0400 hrs 26/07/2025.

AGL SA Generation Pty Limited does not incur any civil monetary liability for a relevant action taken in accordance with this direction unless the action is taken in bad faith.

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Direction - SA region 25/07/2025

In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO has issued a direction to a participant in the SA region. For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a1)(1).

The issue of the direction commences an AEMO intervention event. AEMO declares all trading intervals during the event to be intervention trading intervals, commencing from the interval ending 0805hrs on 25/07/2025.

Intervention pricing does not apply to this AEMO intervention event.

AEMO may issue or revoke additional directions in order to meet the current requirement, unless sufficient market response is provided. A further market notice will be issued when all directions related to this requirement have been cancelled.

AEMO estimates that, in the absence of sufficient market response by 0800 hrs 25/07/2025, AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction.
