TransGrid has recently published a Project Consultation Specification Report for maintaining compliance with performance standards applicable to Wagga 330 kV substation secondary systems.

Wagga 330 kV substation was commissioned in 1973 and is one of three transmission substations located in Wagga Wagga in southern NSW. It directly connects the other two substations – Wagga North and Wagga 132 kV substations. Wagga 330 kV substation is a connection point supplying the Essential Energy 132 kV network in the area inclusive of Gadara, Uranquinty and Yanco.

The secondary systems at Wagga 330 kV substation have reached a condition that reflects the end of serviceable life. As it is superseded by new technology at the manufacturer level and the existing technology becomes obsolete, spare parts become scarce and the ability of the any primary asset connected to the substation to reliably operate will be at risk.

TransGrid has put forward for consideration four credible options that would meet the identified need from a technological and project delivery perspective. The on-site replacement of protection and control systems is the most economical and preferred option at this stage of the RIT-T process.

The estimated capital cost of the proposed preferred option is $8.63 million.

In accordance with the requirements of the Rules, a summary of the Project Specification Consultation Report is made available on the AEMO website. A copy of the Project Specification Consultation Report can be obtained from

TransGrid Website on the RIT-T Consultations page  or by emailing RIT-TConsultations@TransGrid.com.au.

Submissions in response to this Project Specification Consultation Report are required by the closing date of 5 September 2019.
