Matters under consultation

AEMO is consulting a third time with industry on proposed changes to the SO_OP_3705 Dispatch Procedure (Bidirectional Design) document to implement bidirectional units through AEMO’s dispatch system, under the National Electricity Amendment (Integrated energy storage systems into the NEM) Rule 2021 No. 13 (IESS Rule).

The SO_OP_3705 Dispatch Procedure will be finalised to be in effect from 3 June 2024 to align with the IESS Rule commencement once this consultation has closed.

AEMO considers it important to request feedback on the Changes, in the interests of transparency. To provide any feedback on the document below, please contact NEMReform@aemo.com.au.

Changes include:

  • Updated AEMO template
  • Removal of reference to Mandatory Restrictions
  • Inclusion of the new terms “Bidirectional Unit” “Integrated Resource System”, “scheduled bidirectional units”,
  • Confirming that “semi-scheduled generating units, scheduled bidirectional units and scheduled network services cannot have dispatch inflexibility profiles.”
  • Included content of dispatch instructions relating to the BDU Design
