Purpose and functions
The IMO was established in December 2004 as a body corporate and it is responsible to the Minister for Energy.
To achieve the market objectives in the operation and evolution of the Wholesale Electricity Market and Gas Services Information. We accomplish this through collaboration, efficient processes and independent leadership, using our resources efficiently and investing in our people.
Wholesale Electricity Market
- The IMO maintains and develops the Market Rules to ensure the market operates in an economically efficient manner; and
- monitors, investigates and enforces compliance by Rule Participants with the WEM Rules and associated Procedures.
Gas Services Information
- The IMO maintains and develops the GSI Rules and Procedures, in consultation with stakeholders; and
- monitors, investigates and enforces compliance by Gas Market Participants with the GSI Rules and Procedures.
